Mona Agarwal Wins Gold as Avani Lekhara Takes Silver in Asian Para Games 2026
Mona Agarwal clinched gold and Avani Lekhara won silver in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, as Mona set a qualification record with 629.1 points.
Mona finished the final with 250.0 points, narrowly ahead of Avani, who scored 249.6 points to claim silver. South Korea’s Lee Yunri took the bronze medal with 227.9 points. The result gave India a 1-2 finish, with both shooters outperforming the rest of the field in a closely contested final.
Mona and Avani remained in contention for the top position throughout the competition, but Mona’s final score proved decisive, securing her the gold medal by the narrowest of margins.
The silver medal added to Avani’s record at the Asian Para Games. She had won gold at the 2022 Hangzhou Games and continued her medal-winning run at the 2026 edition by finishing second behind her compatriot.
Mona’s gold medal was preceded by an impressive performance in the qualification round, where she topped the standings with 629.1 points after six series. Her score established a new Asian Para Games qualification record, surpassing the previous mark held by China’s Zhang Cuiping.
She also came close to the world record of 629.4 points, jointly held by fellow Indian shooter Avani Lekhara and Slovakia’s Veronika Vadovicova.
Avani also delivered a strong qualification performance to secure her place in the final before going on to win silver. Her finish behind Mona ensured that India occupied both top positions in the women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1 event.
With Mona’s record-setting qualification performance and narrow victory in the final, alongside Avani’s silver medal, India completed a significant double-podium finish in the shooting competition at the 2026 Asian Para Games.
